Giving children the best start in life
At Sunshine day Nurseries we pride ourselves on giving children the best start in life. We have been providing good quality childcare for many years and continue to strive for excellence.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that your child will have a fun and exciting time in an environment where they will be nurtured and cared for by highly trained staff.
From the first visit to the pre-school graduation ceremony, we will focus on your child’s social and learning path - whilst prioritising their safety and happiness.
We would love to meet you and your child so why not arrange a visit and come and see what we have to offer?
What we do
Our Nurseries offer a flexible service including early and late opening times, a flexible contract option for shift workers and we are open 52 weeks of the year excluding bank holidays.
When you choose us to provide your childcare, your child will be looked after by highly trained staff with a wealth of knowledge many of whom have been with the team for a number of years.
History
Sunshine Day Nursery was first established in 1973. It was originally a 60 place setting based in a small building just inside the Herries Road entrance and was simply named the Northern General Nursery. We had very limited resources, often relying on other departments sending us their surplus stationary and computer paper they no longer used.
Over the years we have developed and grown, moving to the current premises at the Northern General Hospital and opening a new setting at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in 2004. We also had a competition to find a new name and we became The Sunshine Day Nursery. Both settings can now take up to 144 children per day and the Northern General Hospital setting has a School Holiday Club.
TestimonialsWhat our parents have to say
"Our son has attended the nursery since September 2020, and we are absolutely delighted with how he has come on since being there. I made the nursery aware from the beginning that he was under SALT for a speech delay, and they (particularly his key worker and nursery SENDCO) have been working brilliantly with SALT, following all the advice given. They suggested my son be referred for an autism assessment and have also further supported us with referrals to the 0-5 SEND service and currently a My Plan. They also helped us with a DLA application, which in turn, meant that we could put my son into nursery longer. My son gets so excited about going to nursery, and he is starting to gain more confidence. He enjoys activities such as drawing, and he loves it when they take him to the sensory room. We have definitely seen a positive change in him since starting nursery, and I am sure he will continue to thrive there. The staff are friendly, and it has a lovely atmosphere. 100% recommend."
"Our child is non-verbal autistic with unique care needs. Right away at Sunshine Day Nursery, we were met with a welcoming atmosphere and staff who were only too willing to go the extra mile to ensure our sensitive child felt safe, accepted and loved. Once settled in, our little one has eagerly bounced into nursery every morning and come home happy. The staff as a whole, but especially key workers, have been flexible enough to adapt to a lot of "self-direction" while actively encouraging development and growth - without once trying to force our child to engage with the curriculum. Meanwhile, the Sendco was tireless in pursuit of our wish to apply for a care plan, gathering evidence and setting everything in motion. If our child (following this deferral year) is able to join the mainstream school in September, it will be in no small part thanks to the wonderful team at Sunshine, and it is a genuine pleasure to have this opportunity to recommend them in the highest possible terms."
"We felt at ease during this pandemic as we know that our child is well looked after and is safe. Staff, both nursery staff and admin are friendly and helpful. We can't thank the staff enough for doing a tremendous job."
"My children (3 years daughter, and 6 months son) have enjoyed their days at the nursery very much. I am so happy from the services provided by the nursery, including the variety of activities, the food choices, the cleanliness, the safety concern, etc. I hugely appreciate all the staff's efforts."
"Staff has always been friendly and helpful. My daughter loved going to nursery and enjoyed making friends. She always spoke highly about the staff in her class. They always had many activities to do and she was always happy to bring them home to share it with us. She was always encouraged to write, and she's also picked up most of her phonics just in time for the next stage in school."
"All the Aunties have been really Great. Thank you for having Ivana and help her learn a lot. Xx Ivana’s mum x."
"I was worried about Anna going to nursery after a year’s maternity leave, but from day 1 Anna has thoroughly enjoyed her time at nursery. It helped us get into a napping routine and has benefitted Anna and us so much. She has had the chance to learn so much from the excellent carers and also been able to run around and play with her nursery friends and do all kinds of things to develop her creativity and herself as a person. Thank you so much!!"
"A warm place where our daughter was well looked after, came on leaps and bounds, made loads of friends and enjoyed herself."
